Education - Essay ExampleThese days, students argon treated with kid gloves in an effort to make them feel fracture about themselves and not harm their unripe psyche. However, by misleading students into believing that they can accomplish anything they want to and that simply trying is good enough, we are top a generation of prideful students who think that they do not need to try harder to be better than the next guy in order to play along in life. They have become a prideful generation without really having anything to take pride in. That is the argument of Thomas Benton in his article the Seven sulfurous Sins of Students, and that is the main focus of this argumentative paper. I will also focus on how the Peter Thiel Fellowship helps to make matters worse for our prideful students because it encourages them to forgo the unfluctuating college route in exchange for instant gratification of their ideas. Peter Thiel, the man after whom the grant is named is described as ... the Silicon Valley investor who believes more young people should be chasing breakthrough technologies instead of wasting their time and money in college. (Miller, Claire Drop Out , Start Up). ... Out of this pride -- nurtured by the purveyors of unearned self-esteem, personal grievance, dumbed-down courses, and inflated grades (often in the guise of liberality) -- the opportunity to earn an education is squandered by prideful students who can make a effectiveness heaven seem like hell. The students of today take pride in being able to achieve without really doing the work. Although there is some good to be said of positive encouragement, the fact that this type of encouragement has taken over the educational system leaves one wondering as to the direction that these students will actually have in their lives. After all, there is nothing worse than being rewarded for mediocrity. Let us also not forget that long known proverb A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It is that little knowledge that these students possess that people such as Peter Thiel exploit for all the ill-treat reasons. Thiel believes that students should not waste their time languishing in college and spending college money that their parents most likely do not have when they can actually be move their dreams and working on turning it into a reality. That is the precise reason that he created the Thiel Fellowship Grant. He caters to the need for instant gratification of the prideful students, forgetting the fact that these are still young people barely out of their teens and without the proper training nor guidance to succeed in their adult endeavors in their current status. That ripening of their minds and skill to manage their lives and professional careers comes with the completion of a college degree. However, Claire Miller (Miller, Claire Drop Out , Start Up) explains that these kids do not understand what they

Paragraph Answer - Coursework ExampleThe latter was overthrown, but there emerged a need to develop new rules for living in the community. Moreover, these rules had to be followed by all the parties and suit every bole. After the patrimonial aristocracy was defeated, Cleisthenes became the head of Athens, 508 BC. He immediately embarked on reforms that were to consolidate the achievement of the demos and put an end to the danger of the revival of the power of one person or aristocracy. In fact, there occurred the democratization of the political system of Athens. By the middle 5th century BC, Athens develop a complete and in own way perfect form of the ancient slave-owning democracy. Athenian version of democracy to a certain extent do possible the expression of every citizen of the pronounce while the main aim remained was the power and prosperity of the state. The elimination of the kings regime in the antediluvian patriarch Rome marked the end of the process of destruction o f the patrimonial organization of the previous epoch, whose speakers were the aristocracy, and the establishment of the civil society and early state (civitas). Republican victory over the clan aristocracy showed the victory of slave ownership over the classical patriarchal ownership (family household). It also signed the radical change of the power of the Senate. In the royal era, the Senate was the council of elders of the kings. They determined the fate of the Senators and the Senate individually and spontaneously. Kings either increased the number of senators or eliminated them all. In the era of the republican Senate, it was the supreme governing body in the state, a stronghold of nobility. The resulting Roman Republic was not democratic state (slave-owning democracy). It became an aristocratic republic, in spite of the fact that all positions in the state were elected. All decisions were taken by Senate. In this respect, there ended an era of the kings and began the era of th e domination of the nobility. Nobility was a new aristocracy that make as a result of the equalization in rights of plebeians and patricians and the merging of the patricians families with plebeians top. So, the prevention of the tyranny of the single rule of one person did not work accurately, because the newly formed nobility gradually seized the leadership of the Senate and the senior civil posts. After the elimination of the tyrannical regimes in the Ancient Greece and Rome, the societies were aiming to prevent the establishment of such regimes in the future. gibe to the Ancient conception of democracy, equally free people had to be equal in all respects oligarchy arises from the fact that in some respect hypernym people claim too much. Sexuality is said to be both sacred and ordinary. Would there be any Essay
Sexuality is said to be both sacred and ordinary. Would there be any problems with persons understanding fire only as sacred, or - search ExampleThis can be estimated from the fact that in our society, 4 per penny to 5 per cent of the juvenile girls are raped by their fathers, 33 per cent to 50 per cent of the women become the victims of completed or attempted rape and 1 in every 4 girls and 1 in every 9 boys experiences sexual abuse once in the childhood. Thus, criminals are using sex as a major means of violence in the society. A commodious majority of women that become the victims of rape tend not to disclose the offence to their relatives or police with the fear of embarrassment and shame. They think that if they do file a case against the offender, it would highlight their sexual identity. Sexual abuse leaves the victim with scars in the mind for the whole life and is one of the major causes of depression among volume in America. Much of the widespread sex-based violence can be attributed to the love of sex as a very sacred topic that can not be discussed openly. Such an understanding of sex is providing the criminals with innumerable opportunities of creating violence. Besides, consideration of sex only as ordinary and non-sacred topic is no less harmful for the society. This is so because consideration of sex as an ordinary matter is just not consistent with the level of secrecy and personalization ingrained in it. Sex essentially brings two people extremely close to each other physically. If sex is considered ordinary, people would be encouraged to doing sex in public which is against all standards of religion, ethics and humanity. Animals do sex in open. It is the superiority of mankind that makes human sex in public a very heinous idea.

A comparison and analysis of poems from William Carlos Williams Essay
A comparison and analysis of poems from William Carlos Williams - Essay ExampleHis major difference with Pound (apart from Williamss acutely responsive and hardheaded presentations of women and his revulsion against fascism see especially Paterson III-V) lay in his desire to create a specifically American poetics based on the rhythms and colorations of American speech, thought, and experience.1 His topics a lot center around the middle class women and men he treated as a part of his medical profession and his plain language often had people of his time misunderstanding the artistry behind his words. However, it is in this colloquialism that he is able to capture the voice of the nation, its multiracial and immigrant streams of speech and behaviour, its violence and exuberance, its ignorance of its bear general and regional history. It is presented as a search for the elements of a common language a shared cultural and historical awareness to counteract the fragmentation of Amer ican society.2 This effort to capture the voice of the common American as well as to present the images that are most important to the countrifieds identity can be traced through such poems as effluence and All, The Red Wheelbarrow and To Elsie. At the opening of his second book of poems, Spring and All, Williams includes a poem that remained untitled in his original version but that has come to be known by the same name as the glitz in which it first appeared. Spring and All focuses upon the more or less invisible processes that are occurring as spring approaches the land, making a connection in the midst of this movement and the movement that can be found within the mind of an engaged reader. He begins trying to establish that engagement with his very first line, By the road to the contagious hospital.3 The unusual combination of words startles us into paying attention. A contagious hospital is at once deadly and life-giving, potentially fatal and

They usually stay away from normal people and they create individual worlds for themselves. Without taking proper help, they cannot communicate with others. This kind of children needs special attention and care from our society. According to the scientists and doctors, autism results from the damage of brain cells that are responsible for the senses and emotions of the humans. The biological theory of autism states there are few abnormalities in the brain of the child due to some reasons, which may cause autism. In some cases, medical treatment of the child can cause autism. checku p treatment has a negative effect on the health of the children. This affects the nervous system of the children, which can cause autism. (Autism, n.d. Cohen & Bolton, 2004 Pp 26- 32). Special educational needs schools have study autism spectrum disorder in the students. The study has found that there are some critical behaviors among them like behavior barriers, emotional barriers, social barriers and communication barriers. Most of the Special educational needs schools have an approach, which consists of individual behavior management with development in social abilities towards autism children. The schools help to develop some special self-help skills among the students, which is necessary for the growth of the person. They have also introduced speech and verbalization in their curriculum to fill the gap in communication. Every child is special and unique in his or her structure and mental set up. Therefore, they need different learning style. (Autism, n.d.). The paper investiga tes the intervention strategies used to manage

The Baptism Debate - Research Paper ExampleOne such area of difference is the meaning and importance of baptism. That is, various denominations approach ideas related to baptism differently. whatever individuals, for example, do not recognize any significance of baptism. This paper explores certain debatable issues surrounding baptism. Specifically, the paper addresses merits of baptism, eligibility of an individual for baptism, and correct biblical mode of baptism. delimitate of the Paper period exploring the concept of baptism among believers, the paper identifies some debatable aspects of baptism. The areas include significance of baptism, children baptism, and correct biblical mode of baptism. Since the paper is an argumentative paper, both propo go againstg and opponent sides of the areas are discussed in the paper. This paper begins by exploring the meaning and understanding of baptism. This section outlines how baptism is important to believers. The paper further identifies merits of baptism to Baptists, individuals who believe in existence and usefulness of baptism. While discussing baptism of children, the paper begins by highlighting reasons used by individuals who oppose infant baptism. Those who are in favor of the issue are later discussed in the paper. ... In addition, it emerged that the Bible does not clearly support children baptism. Moreover, the Bible supports baptism by immersion. Meaning of Baptism Baptism is an outward symbol of an individuals inner transformation.4 The entire process of baptism is achieved finished the power and strength of Jesus. It is important to note that baptism is not about overcoming sin, but is about repenting past sins. In other words, baptism involves making up your mind that you involve to overcome sin by allowing God to give strength and victory. Through baptism, Apostle Paul argues that Christians embrace importance of Jesus death and resurrection.5 That is, Christians symbolically undergo identical exp eriences that Jesus went through in His death, burial, and resurrection. Apostle Paul further clarifies that while Jesus physically died and resurrected, Christians die to their sins, self, and old ways. Resurrection to Christians, therefore, implies that an individual, after baptism, rises again to a holy living through Jesus Christ. As Romans 68-12 say, Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we also live with Him. For we know that since Jesus was raised from the dead, he cannot die again..In the same way, calculation yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Apart from the message to Romans, Apostle Paul also informs Corinthians about importance of baptism to Christians. In II Corinthians 517 Paul says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation the old has gone, the new creation has come. Therefore, after baptism, an individual is holy and sin no longer reigns over him. The verse implies that sin has to die and be passed away from an individual so that Jesus completely occupy an individuals life. The verse does not,

Environmental Management - Essay ExampleMore over, the water based sports that are part of tourism activities are touch on by the presence of waste. Hotels may lose clients as they move to the unpolluted areas. The waste water could be of use to the hotels if it is treated and used for sanitary purposes, thereby lowering the water expenses. On the former(a) hand, hotels can avoid breaking government regulations regarding discharge of waste in to the environment, which may lead to legal achievement macrocosm taken against them.High electrical energy consumption also leads to the depletion of water resources especially where hydro-electric power is used. Other electric generation plants also bugger off an impact on the environment, which may lead to the migration of organisms such as birds due to the emission of toxic gases. Such phenomena adversely affect the hotel and tourism industry. Hotels would on the other hand be at an advantage if they conserved energy in their functioni ngs and hotel rooms. The most important is lowering their energy costs, which translates in to reduced operation costs, hence higher profitability (Gibson et al 2003). This can be accomplished through sensitizing the staff and the visitors regarding leaving the lights off when not in use, ensuring that refrigerators and other electrical appliances are not switched on unnecessarily. The wood fuel that is used for cooking leads to the destruction of forests, which serve as an essential carbon sink. The greenhouse gases emitted from combustion fuel have been a major contributor to climate change. This has adversely affected the hotel industry as water bodies dry up and land being transformed in to a desert. Wild life is becoming depleted in many countries where tourism is a major economic activity, which has led to the solution of many hotel businesses. It is therefore necessary for hotels to engage in the control of green house gases emission, no matter how little they may be contrib uting to

A multinational company maximises its competitive advantage by Essay - 1
A multinational company maximises its competitive advantage by controlling its own supply chain. Discuss - Essay Example almost numbers of the MNCs in the present business environment are likely to strengthen along with build wide network of their supply chain strategies in order of battle to remove superior competitive position (Costinot, Vogel & Wang, 2011). With regard to the field of governance, the supply chain mechanisms that implement by the MNCs are often incorporated with interlacing systems due to the prevalence of different structure along with power proportion existing between the business partners. The organisations such as McDonalds, Wal-Mart and Nestle S. A. among others are exceedingly inclined with maintaining strong supply chain governance that enables them to proactively perform range of business operations across the global subsidiaries. In relation to increase the cogency along with the business operations, organisations are significantly influenced by the a spect of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). According to the present increasing growth of globalisation, FDI portfolios have major(ip) bearing upon the competitive position of the MNCs. FDI has long been identified as an essential aspect for the countries, facilitating them to stabilise their keepive economic position. The development of FDI can only be made through the accession of MNCs into respective business markets. The integration of MNCs generally enables the countries to obtain substantial direct investment and also radically develop their trade good along with technical trade facilities (Qin, 2011). In this context, the theories associated with the efficiency of the firms have greater influence regarding the success of an organisation (Kusluvan, 1998).Based on the competitive scenario of the modern business environment, the primary feather objective of this essay is to demonstrate an in-depth understanding about the conventional theories associated with the major attribute s that can be observed to remain in an unconventional SCM process. The essay therefore, tends to critically assess and justify the importance of an effective set of SCM process along with its key roles that further lead organisations to accomplish greater competitive advantage. 2. Discussion 2.1 Theories of the Firms With respect to the unconventional changes along with rapid development of SCM strategies made by the global organisations, it is widely accepted that strategies are generally developed in order to attain long-term sustainability in the competitive market. A few of the major theories associated with firms long-term sustainability have been briefly demonstrated in the following discussion. Coase Theorem The concerns associated with building interpersonal kinship regarding the individual efficacy creeps through taking into concern the conventional theorem The Problem of Social Cost, which developed by Ronald H. Coase. In relation to Coase theorem, the issues associated w ith impossibleness in terms of making scientific comparison of interpersonal individual efficacy can be considered as one of the problems of social cost. In order to effectively deal with the problems of social cost, the Coase theorem and its disciples play an essential role for the modern entrepreneurs to reduce optimum influence of externalities such as air or make noise pollution (North, 1992). The Coase theorem of the firms tends to define economic efficiency concerning economic allocation with the

It is the urge to self edit that makes it hard to get started with the writing process.2. When Ms. Flowers said that writing is not just self-expression, it is communication as well, she refers to the occurrence that anything that can be read by others imparts a specific message that is understood by others. It is a form of communication that easily proliferates the world and allows for a deeper understanding and meaning of the authors work.3. The madman is the story idea in your head that you have to get down on paper. The architect is the part of the author that storyboards the ideas of the madman in order to create a coherent story outline. The carpenter is the part of the writer who actually writes the story based upon the concept of the madman and the externalise of the architect. While the judge is the pa rt of the writer that decides whether the work is solid enough to be presented either to his publisher or the public in various forms of clear media.4. I feel that I am already applying this writing process to the way that I write because I have a tendency to grip going back to edit my work for various mistakes and possible mistakes until I get everything perfect in my mind.5. The biggest similarity between Ms. Lamont and Ms. Flowers lies within the way they come upon their drafting stage in writing. Anne Lamont calls it a shitty first draft, Betty S. Problem Formulation and Identification Paper Essay - 3
Problem Formulation and Identification Paper - Essay ExampleExperts have indicated that problem preparation and acknowledgement bearings be diverse in terms of their approaches however, all the styles are similar in terms of five stages, which are problem identification, solutions identification, evaluation stage, prospects of failures, locomote for overcoming impediments, and lastly, plan for the implementation of decisions taken in the previous stages. (Mumford, 2006)However, condition assessment, problem analysis, scrutiny of decision, and opportunity analysis are some of major components of the chosen style of Kepner-Tregoe, which distinguished it from other problem identification and formulation styles. In brief, priorities are established and complex situations in an organization are clarified for effective identification of problems in such approach. (Vandenbosch, 2003) Moreover, potential threats are located by extensive examination of business environment, which is one of the key tasks of this style. Subsequently, problematic situations without any reason are identified during problem analysis stage of this style, and different causes of problems are analyzed by considering location, identity, and enormity in the organization that may facilitate in businesslike determination of actual causes of the problems, which is one of the significant strengths of this style.Consequently, such style gives utmost significance to purpose behind every decision, which helps in determining possible risks associated with the decision. counterbalance is maintained during decision analysis in which, positive and negative consequences of a decision are compared by outlining the possible factors. Lastly, effective measures are taken to debar any problems that are foreseen in previous stage of the problem identification process. (Mumford, 2006) Additionally, different opportunities are identified that can be taken for

Review of The End of Education by Neil Postman Research Paper
Review of The End of Education by Neil Postman - Research Paper ExampleThe instant god is the god of consumership and Postman argues that its general moral maxim is within the slogan that whoever buys things will inherit goodness and those who do not, evil. In other words, an individual is built by what he or she accumulates. Devotion to the god of consumership begins at an early age and it persists until teenage hood. This god has created a theology that cannot be considerably ignored. This is because of the fact that it is based on the notion that an individuals life becomes worthy when they buy things. The third and the last god is the god of technology. This god is genuinely much related to the god of consumership because it serves as a vehicle to propagate the message of the god of Consumership (Postman, 2010).The most appealing idea that the world has yet cognize is an example of democracy that the United States has fully embraced since its independence. It can be used to win the global unqualified confidence. Democracy is very appealing such that contend hypocrite towards the beliefs we hold and performing official acts of suppression will stifle our own liberties (Harrison, 2009). On the other hand, schools are meant to sell the American dream to the full world through democracy. In other words, schools are attempting to see whether a rational, stable, and unified culture can be created from individuals of diverse religions, languages, and traditions. However, the idea is most appealing, and on that point is need to reassure friends of the United States about the idea. These friends have already created notions that may jeopardize the efforts of the United States to sell its idea of democracy. According to a survey conducted by the Fortune magazine, it is clear that the friends do not want to be influenced by the American culture. Europe thinks that the United States is dragging humanity in the direction of dehumanization. For instance, the relat ions between the Soviet Union and the United States have one

Environmental Impact of Prescribed burning in the United States Essay Example for Free
Environmental Impact of irrefutable enthusiastic in the get together States EssayThe term confident(p) fl being refers to a management practice in which burn down is used to burn a predetermined eye socket under specified environmental conditions. ardent in this case is used as a management tool in areas that are vulnerable to catching fire collectible to the background bounce back that acts as fuel load. In addition, combustion is considered to be the most environmentally friendly and cheapest regularity of having woody process in an ecosystem controlled. Prescribed burn down in the join States is common. In this form of burning, controlled fires are used to burn a specified farming area after proper planning which ensures that the present survive conditions are favorable for the burning. When weather conditions are not suitable for the burn, negative clashing of the fire in the burnt areas is likely to be witnessed (Dale et al, 2009). In the United States, overconfident burning is considered to be a very important management tool due to the benefits associated with it. Both the landowners and the United States National Forest System micturate been using visit burning for many years.According to the United States fire policy in relation to the forest ecosystem, there is need to undertake prescribed burning in order to enhance the growth of commercial forests, prevent wildfire damage and to enhance fire dependent ecosystems. However, prescribed burning has been criticized for its negative impress on the environment. For instance, prescribed burning results to the clearing of land or use of land for agricultural activities that chip in negative effects on the environment. In this paper, the electrical shock of prescribed burning on the environment in the United States will be discussed. The paper will focus on the effect of prescribed burning on land after it is cleared by prescribed fires. cut down clearing that results from the bu rning impacts negatively on the phytology, tarnish, water and biodiversity.ThesisIn the United States prescribed burning is made necessary by the conditions in the forest ecosystems or ranches. The burning aims at preventing wildfires that can damage properly or leave behind to death of the people if the fuel load on the ground encourages wild fires. In addition, the United States national forest system undertakes prescribed burning activities due to the bionomical benefits that burning gives to the forests. The national forest system associates prescribed burning to the reduction of wildfire hazards, land improvement, game habitat enhancement, insect and disease management and localize preparation for reforestation (Biswell, 1999).Examples of areas that have undergone prescribed burning activities include the California wild lands, Florida Flatwoods and the Southern eastern US National Forest. It is important to realize that although prescribed burning in these areas has its b enefits to the ecosystem and the people it also impacts negatively on the environment over time.Negative environmental impact of prescribed burning occurs despite the position that prescribed burning is planned in a manner that minimizes negative effects of burning on the environment. This has made the issue of prescribed burning to suit a subject of debate in the country .While just about consider prescribed burning to reduce negative impact of wild fires on the environment, burning can also impact negatively on the environment. Land clearing that result from the burning has negative effect on the environment.DiscussionNegative impact of Prescribed burning on vegetation after clearing of landPrescribed burning results to the clearing of land in a predetermined area as the fire burns the fuel load. The burning has both indirect and direct negative effects after land clearing by the fire. Land clearing in turn has negative effects on the vegetation, water, soil and wildlife. The n egative impact of prescribed burning in the United States has been witnessed in some areas because prescribed burning has become a very important activity in the country. Every year, hundreds of thousands of hectares are burn down.Although various methods of burning are used burn the vegetation cover in the predetermined areas, fires destroy the existing vegetation by either injuring or killing the entire plant or separate of the plant. This depends on the duration that the fire burns or the intensity of the fire. Prescribed burning based on the slash reduction method results to the reduction of debris. This method is also used to reduce debris in case of a natural event or road construction. When management ignited fire is used, the burning of a stand that has been established is done while ensuring that fire does not spread beyond the predetermined area. While small trees are completely burned during the burning, larger trees may survive the fires but some of their trees may be de stroyed. When fires are ignited, the burning forest fuels increase the temperatures which make it difficult for the vegetation to survive.Since when it comes to burning the temperature of the vegetation and that of the air are very important, people who have the responsibility to ignite fires should do it when the air and vegetation temperatures cannot encourage fires that can have ominous effects on the environment. For instance, prescribed fires in the United States during winter top kill the hard woods while hardwood rootstocks are killed by summer burns. In areas where burning has not been done for a longtime, deep organic layer that accumulates during prescribed burning whizzs to the cambial damage of trees.Because only little heat is ask to destroy the plant cells in growing plants, burning the vegetation kills growing plants. This leads to the short and long term destruction of the vegetation which over time exposes land to swops that impact negatively on the good conditi ons of the environment. One short term and long term impact of prescribed burning in the Sequoia and Kings canyon National position in the United States is the change in species composition (Mary Berth, 2000). This change alters proper surgical procedure of the ecosystem since it leads to the growth of new species while those that earlier existed and are not spacious to fire before the fire fail to regenerate. These two ballparks are located in Californias South Nevada areas. The parks cover about 864, 383 acres of land and prescribed burning in these two parks was made necessary by the desire to initiate ecological benefits in the parks. The two parks prescribed fire programs were developed in 1969 and continues to be implemented in order to reduce fuel hazard paradox that may result from heavy surface fuel loads. Though the fires have been used to reduce the damage that may result from severe wild fires, change in species composition due to the clearing of land by fires has ove r the years been witnessed in the parks.Fires have limited the growth of species that are not tolerant to the fire ignited over a long time. For instance, the increase in relative density of the giant Sequoia due to prescribed fires over a long time has altered the growth and survival of some other plant species. The successful fire regimes restoration in the parks has encouraged the transition of the species that are fire-adapted at the expense of the species that are less-adapted to fire. The reduction of fuel load and the restoration of forest structure after the fires alter the number and pattern of growth of plant species. The parks have conifer forests dominated by the sequoia species. The change in the species number in a forest ecosystem affects the proper functioning of the natural ecosystem and this may lead to bare ground and soil erosion when plants and animals that promote proper functioning of the ecosystem are eliminated from the environment. In ecologically sensitive habitats in the United States, prescribed fires have had adverse effects on the regeneration and survival of plant species. For example, the riparian areas in a forest system. A tuition carried out to determine the effect of prescribed fire on the riparian areas in the Dark Canyon area showed that the fire consumed 90 per cent of the ground fuel, 79 per cent of the riparian zone pre-fire fuel, and 34 per cent of the total surface fuel. The fire significantly reduced the percentage cover of the surface vegetation (Beche et al, 2005).As compared to the unburned areas, the burned area showed a change in the plant taxa comprehensiveness after the regeneration of vegetation. The reduction in plant taxa cover and richness changed the under story riparian vegetation community composition. These changes show that when an area experiences prescribed burning for a long time, disappearance of some species can lead to reduction in the percentage of vegetative cover. In the California Oak woodl ands, the Native Americans used fire to have the Oak woodland vegetation altered. Prescribed fires are considered to reduce the under story woody vegetation and have the tree density is lowered. After the fires, regeneration may result to growth of vegetation in patches. Since the settlement of Euro-Americans in the area, prescribed fire ignited in an ecosystem to create land for livestock ranches has removed the vegetation cover and instead give birth the growth of plant species that are good for forage production. The woody vegetation in the area has been affected.Eventually, reduced vegetation cover has made it easy for soil to be exposed to either wind or rain erosion.Prescribed fires in Oregons Mixed conifer forests of Crater Lake over the years have altered species composition by killing species that are not fire resistant while providing favorable conditions for the regeneration of fire-resistant species (Agee, 2003). The Crater Lake National park has in the past prescribed a fire program that aims at increasing growth of pine trees and killing of the white fir tree species in the park. Natural ecosystems can undergo succession to form forests that are dominated by the hardwood. The southeast region in the United States is considered to be the most fire dependent area in the country. The removal of fuel loads in burned areas impacts negatively on the environment when over time plant species that support proper functioning of an ecosystem are eliminated. This makes an ecosystem to be vulnerable to changes that have adverse effects on the environment.

The Survival Of The Fittest
The Survival Of The FittestSurvival of the Fittest just might as well be the title of this short story. Only the strongest will break through is Charles Darwins theory of Survival of the Fittest (Puchalik). This theory is concisely paralleled in Jack Londons To Build a Fire (Puchalick). A mans trip into the Northern Wilderness, the Yukon Trail, faces a series of herculean challenges as he progresses on the trail. However, self-confidence will be the mans fatal downfall when he faces these foreboding challenges. In Londons To Build a Fire, the narrators description of arrogance is demonstrated through the conjoined use of setting, character, and plot to proclaim that arrogance can lead to disaster. In To Build a Fire, Jack London uses a varied amount of details in the setting to illustrate the seriousness of the main characters postal serv frost. The story is a detailed description of the dangers of severe cold and the stages multiform in the process of freezing to finis. The mai n character, the man, in To Build a Fire is a very arrogant person who believed in his own capabilities to address anything that came at him and took everything at face value. He didnt analyze and survey the bea over every detail which caused him to oversee many important things throughout the story. He definitely was non one of those people that are very analytic and his conceptions were rooted in the tangible world and not in the surreal. The severity of the mans situation is fully demonstrated and established through Londons descriptions of the landscape, intense cold, ice, and s straightaway. The height of Londons descriptive portrayal is the storys concise illustration of the intense cold of the winter that the man is locomotion through. The description of the Yukon Trail gets to a greater extent into depth with descriptions such as, Londons description of the man spitting, sharp, explosive crackle(Burdick 14) is happening in the middle of the air before the mans spit could so far hit the ground is just an example of how vicious the cold was and what the man was traveling through. The frozen moisture of air that the man is breathing formed the ice on his beard and mustache (Kreidler). For example, crystal beard of the color and solidity of amber(Burdick 15) transpired when the man chews tobacco and the swiftness in which the mans limbs become numb and unusable are more illustrative examples of Londons account of the cold. The journey through the unbroken white North and south, as far as the eye could see (Burdick13) was another superb account of the wonderful use of setting in this story. Without a reason to doubt, the idea of a world of ice is a huge factor in the greatness of this story only to be undermined by Londons very descriptive depiction of the mans finale. This is depicted in detail throughout the further on into the story. The punic environment of the Yukon, to the man, is just an obstacle that could easily be conquered with the knowledg e of your surroundings and an arrogant attitude, but it is actually the executioner. The fear of falling in the water, and this thought unplowed running through his head once in a while the thought reiterated itself that it was very cold and had never experience such cold (Kreidler), the informality when the clap is built, and the horror when it is put out are all situations that builds tension of the story and the mans arrogance is really starting to get him in serious trouble. The dismay when he is unable to build another fire and the climatic end that is bound to happen are more completely realized when the man is unable to light a match (Bloom). The rush through the snow, then becoming exhausted and not being able to keep open up the running, and the, the idea to toss off his dog, but not able to grasp his knife, to use its body as warmth. Once he knew that the end was near, the man laid down to embrace death that was coming to him (Bloom). These are all further illustrati ve details of the mental break down of the mans character and how his arrogant mindset has brought him to his end.The arrogance of the man has now been fully recognized by him and he thinks of meeting death with dignity(Burdick 27) and this is the final stage to the mans realization that he was to die. The concept to sleep off to death(Burdick 27)and his statement, Freezing was not so bad as people thought. There were lots worse ways to die. is another step towards the imminent conclusion that we had all suspected when the fire was forcefully put out. The setting and his character is furthermore developed by these various accounts and the brutality of the severe winters in the Yukon Trail are even more realized. In conclusion, Londons setting within the unemotional Yukon is both descriptive and energetic. The major problem of the story takes place after the fire is put out, leading to the flood tide of the story when the man begins his realization that death had found him and was no t going to go away. In this way, London uses setting, plot, and character to show the extent of the mans situation and the death that will surely come if you underestimate it and not look at it with an open mind. The challenges of the story, the severe cold, and the mans final death all happened because the man did not keep an open mind.
